If We Can Make It There…
Almost midnight. Tired? Yeah. But right now I am sitting in our field producers’ room at the Comfort Inn, listing to Brook Linder and Charles McDonald coach Lindsey Hale through a session of “looping” audio into a parody of the Verizon commercials. You know, “It’s a dead zone…” Anyway, it’s hilarious, or we’re just getting loopy from lack of sleep and too much fried food. Wait, I’m from the Ozarks. There is no such thing as too much fried food.
The trip hit its first snag when we couldn’t get to Times Square as planned earlier tonight. We literally couldn’t get from here (Paramus, NJ) to there (Broadway). Once we realized we didn’t have time or means to make the trip to the Big Apple, we settled for fast food deliveries to the wonderful hotel lobby.
We have three new stories from Chicago going up on the website in a few hours, and those will be followed by the five we are shooting here in New York. We’ve met some real “characters” like Steve the doorman, and the family that has been living in the Comfort Inn for six months.
All in all, things have been great and the challenges have been surmountable. And we don’t have the “bus smell” yet. So far, no one has used the bus bathroom. That’s kind of an unwritten rule.
More from NYC tomorrow.
